Coaching Update February 2019


Hello everyone

I wanted to update you all on a few recent things that have been added in case you’ve not seen them already and would always encourage you to contact with any queries or feedback that you may have. 
So, firstly we are social media. These being WhatsApp, Facebook (Swanage Tennis Club), Instagram (#SwanageTennisClub) and Twitter (@Swanage Tennis) and would really appreciate that if you are on any of these platforms to LIKE and SHARE our pages and posts with everyone. Also, please rate our club on Facebook to assist other who are thinking of getting in touch to be assured that we are the right club for them.
Our WhatsApp group is the main method of retrieving updates on coaching. if you aren’t on there then please let me know and I can add you. 
I am currently undergoing some market research to find out what adult and juniors in Swanage and the surrounding area thinks of Tennis and collating some vital information that with all your help means that I can make the best programme that is affordable and suited to all needs. I have attached a copy of this form below, so please fill this out and return it to me as soon as possible. There is a £100 amazon voucher prize draw for those that return the forms. Closing date will be 28th February.
We currently have adult and junior teams for this summer. We do also have some teams playing over the winter as well and currently doing very well. We have been going from strength to strength and seeing more teams and more interest. Here, the adults teams are teams of 4 playing two best-of-3 set matches against local club around the area. The juniors are slightly different in that they have teams of 4 playing 4 singles and 2 doubles under a best-of-3 set format. 
Please let me know if you are interested and we can add you to a team. 
Our coaching programme is building up steadily and would really encourage players to get involved with all the coaching programme has to offer. We have brought in some new sessions this year for adults, these being Matchplay Drills, Family Morning, Team Practice, Circuits and Yoga. Please refer to the attached programme for more information. YOGA Wednesday’s are available to adult members and a prompt start time from 10-11am. Caroline will take you through a stages of yoga that will transform you mind, body and stress levels. 
We also have available to members during the first Friday and third Thursday of each month a fun doubles tournament where all are welcome to join in. In addition to this we have fun social events for all to be involved with. 
We run flexi-card (10 hour card) which allows adults to turn up and play in any adult session and sessions are ticked off as you come. You have a 3 month expiry on these cardsThis allows adults access to around 240 lessons in 3 months!!
For our younger players, we’ve got Junior Matchplay, Family Cardio (over 9yrs) and Family Morning to choose from, in addition to the regular Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced sessions for all ages. We have also included NEW Super Saturday happy hour sessions which are fun sessions at £2 per child. The attendance is confirmed on our Junior whatApp group, so please let me know if you need to be added on. 
Over the holidays we run kids camps as well as the regular adult programme. Bringing a friend to the camps can offer you the chance to save money on the camps and would love to see as many taking part in these as possible. We have half and full day camps, which can be for a day or a week. The flexibility is there to suits you. Please sign-up to these sessions before they take place.
I have attached a copy of the holiday programme form below for more information. 
At present we have partnerships with 5 primary schools and soon to be a 2 secondary tier schools. We are currently running a programme in 3 of them throughout the year and visiting the others at least once a year. We endeavour to grow as we get through the year and currently coaching 110 kids per week. We are hoping to get involved with Purbeck House School in the future. 
Currently, i have a rewards programme happening each month. This is a points based table which includes a variety of areas that I look for in my players. If each players, for example, give 100%, attends lessons, helps out, brings their "win list” (Ask the kids what that is) and plays a match to name a few means they will score a point. At the end of the month the player with most points wins our “Player of the Month” reward. This counts towards each category of player. These being RED (5-8yrs), ORANGE (9yrs), GREEN (10yrs) and YELLOW (11+). 
At the end of the year each player scores will be tallied and brought up as our rewards "Player of the Year” at our AGM and collecting a trophy for their hard work. So time to hit the courts and get playing.
Well done to our January winners who have all demonstrated a great attitude, worked hard and shown the resilience and strength to do their very best even when challenged. They are very well deserved and hope the continue onwards and upwards. GREAT ACHIEVEMENT! WELL DONE!!

Cardio Tennis

Cardio Tennis is a series of tennis-based drills and activities played to up-tempo music on a tennis court. It does not require tennis skills, but is all about keeping your heart rate up, burning calories and having fun. Whether the ball goes in or out is irrelevant as the main purpose is to get fit.

Cardio Tennis includes a warm-up, cardio workout, and cool down phases. If you are looking for a great new way to get in shape and to burn calories, why not try Cardio Tennis?

There are drills for absolute beginners through to advanced players, all of which provide you with a great cardio workout while improving skill. Cardio Tennis is more fun than working out in a gym or other forms of exercise.

The session takes place on a tennis court and is run by our qualified tennis coach. The main purpose of the session is to provide you with an enjoyable work out. It’s not about forehands and backhands, it’s about getting in to your appropriate cardio zone and getting a great workout.

Music is played during the session to help create a high energy atmosphere and add motivation. Participants are advised to wear heart rate monitors so they can see if they are working hard enough (or too hard). The heart rate monitors also provide an accurate summary of the session including how many calories have been burned.

Cardio Tennis is a great way to improve your fitness whilst playing a game you love. Based around tennis drills, you will run, hit and smash your way through calories in this high intensity workout.

Club Coach

My name is Ryan Trickey and I’m the new Head Coach at Swanage Tennis Club. I’ve been in the coaching industry now for nearly 16 years coaching internationally from the U.S. to Australia. I have also coached around the U.K. most noticeably in Oxfordshire, Dorset and Hampshire. In my coaching career I have worked with all ages and ability levels from beginners to top ranked national ranked players.

I began my playing background as young as 3 years of age at St.Leonards & St.Ives Tennis Club. Since then, I reached Dorset champion at age 9, national schools tennis at 16 years old and went on to further education at Roehampton University Studying Sport & Exercise Sciences. Here, I became first team coach for 2 years taking them to the regional finals.

I have very high hopes for Swanage Tennis Club and know that everyone that comes through the doors at Swanage will have some place in the programme. I pride myself on ensuring that I can meet the needs and goals of every player I coach and encourage all to play the game. We encourage all ages levels and abilities to take part and hope everyone has fun on the programme.
